The Sponsored Teachers' Training College was established with an aim to impart proper career training to the educated youth of this region in the field of education and also to enable the potential teachers to understand the spirit, nature, and purpose of Higher/Secondary Education. This College has earned the reputation of being a pioneer institution for Teacher Training in the State of West Bengal.
The College is actively involved in training the educated youth to face the challenges in the field of Education, usage of modern information technology for education in schools and colleges and to develop communication skills of the trainees. In 1969, the Government of West Bengal permitted the college for providing Co-Education teaching.
This college has earned recognition from NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) and is approved by UGC (University Grants Commission).

Sponsored Teachers’ Training College, Purulia was established to impart quality and value based Teacher Education in 1964 by the West Bengal Government under the auspices of the ‘Women Development Scheme’ during the Third Five Year Plan vide G.O. No. 2318-Edn (G), dated the 6th July, 1964 as a Govt. Sponsored College with the name “Sponsored Teachers’ Training College for Women”. It started its journey from the academic session 1964-65 with an intake of 40 (forty) women trainee under affiliation of the Burdwan University.
